Penrhyn Set To Play In WPL League Cup
May 17th, 2012EIGHT feeder league clubs have been invited to participate in a new-look Welsh Premier League Cup competition next season.
The new and as-yet unnamed competition is likely to be played under floodlights on a straight knockout basis, replacing the much-maligned League Cup which has failed to find favour with either clubs or supporters despite the league tinkering with the format in recent years.
Cambrian & Clydach, Taffs Well, Haverfordwest County and Bryntirion Athletic from the Welsh League will take part along with the clubs that finished in the top four places behind champions Gap Connah’s Quay in the Huws Gray Alliance.
This will bring in Rhyl, Buckley Town, Porthmadog and Penrhyncoch.
Details of the precise format and timings have yet to be revealed by the league but it is hoped the move will revitalise the league cup.
