Juniors Fail In Bid For Double

May 6th, 2008

Penrhyncoch U17’s 1 v Newcastle Emlyn 3 (aet)

The double was not to be asĀ  Newcastle Emlyn took the spoils in what was a robust and thunderous Final played at Bargoed on Sunday 18th May 2008 – NCE started brightly but Penrhyn then took control and despite having at least 3 good chances it was Jenkins in goal who produced an excellent save on 34 mins to deny Olly Evans – 0-0 at half time with Penrhyn in charge.

The second half was a totally different affair with NCE dominant – Morgan and South were in superb form at the back and when Emlyn were awarded a penalty when Jenkins was lucky to remain on the field it seemed the tied was turning – but they missed – Penrhyn were still hanging in – but after 58 mins Emlyn broke the deadlock when Evans headed in a corner – Penrhyn then quickly conceeded another penalty which was again missed – low and behold after 69 mins David Griffiths unleashed a 30 yard thunderbolt – 1-1 and extra time looming – but it was not to be Emlyn made it 2-1 after 8 mins if the first half of extra time and with the last kick of the match 3-1.

Well done to Emlyn and a superb effort by the Penrhyn lads when you consider a team was only entered to give the lads a game – we did not have the expectation of wining the League and being beaten cup finalists – a superb all round effort by all the lads.

TEAM – JENKINS, EVANS, HARVEY, SOUTH, MORGAN. TOURLE, GRASHAM, WOOLLEY, GRIFFITHS, DANIEL, DAVIES, JAMES, ELWELL & GEORGE.
